Easy Flan Recipe: Creamy Caramel Custard

Introduction

Flan, also known as crème caramel, is a classic dessert loved for its silky texture and rich caramel topping. With just a few ingredients, you can create this elegant treat. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. Make the Caramel:
    • In a saucepan, melt the granulated sugar over medium heat.
    • Stir until it turns golden and forms a smooth caramel.
    • Quickly pour the caramel into a flan mold or oven-safe dish, coating the bottom evenly.
  2. Prepare the Custard:
    • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
    • Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the mold.
  3. Bake:
    • Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish.
    • Fill the larger dish with hot water (about halfway up the sides of the flan mold).
    • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  4. Chill and Serve:
    • Remove from the oven and let it cool.
    • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
    • To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert onto a plate, and let the caramel sauce flow over the custard.

Enjoy your homemade flan—a delightful blend of creamy and caramel goodness!
